Sometimes, the perfect answer to a deep question lies
in silence. And, somehow, those who stepped out of his life must embrace his
perfect silence. It may not be an answer for them but for him, it was.
The ceiling
appears to be a wonderful scenery now -- away from the dark, lonely and drastic
shadow of yesterday. Relishing the beauty of solitude, he realized that the
downpour was finally over. Suddenly, down the lane of his memory, he met them
again.
It was a fine
afternoon, sometime in the month of March. Wearing a winsome, glittering smile,
he walked towards his friends and started to enjoy his life with
them. Heaven is utterly kind for sending these angels to his ordinary
world -- making his sojourn on Earth a glimpse of paradise. They turned the
forest of this precarious life into a garden of serenity -- with their noises
as hymn of bliss and their ways as the definition of priceless. They opened his
eyes to see the beauty of everything. If he could bring back the berserk hands
of time, then he would surely do it and experience everything over and over again.
But, he has no power to do such -- nobody has and even God, whose miracles know
no boundaries, would not allow him to. The only thing he can manage is the glowing
faith in his soul that fate will always be generous to them, that no matter
what happens tomorrow will be for the better. Though, it is hard to perceive
that future especially now that they are slowly leaving the most colorful
chapter of their lives as students. High school life is waving goodbye.
Time passed. God
turned the page. His college days began. Excited and edgy, he entered the a
classroom which is imbued with mysterious new faces -- making him more innocent
about heaven's plan.
Days went by. He
made new friends -- irrigated a blooming friendship without forgetting to water
the old ones. Yes, no one among his college friends is special enough to take away
the place that was intended for them -- the largest room in his heart. The
promises they made before was enough for him to believe that everything will
incessantly remain.
And, the vow stayed
alive. College life, yes, has made them busy but they always have time for each
other. They continued living the way they used to be. The laughters remained
loud. Their bright eyes kept on shining. The friendship did not die -- it even
grew.
Nothing seemed to
be over until, one morning, he woke up and saw the night -- an evening of windswept
feeling. The friendship that was once burning like the sun transformed into a dying
star -- walking its last mile.
The old song
abruptly stopped playing. The glitters in the sky ceded in the coldness of the breeze
and died. The memories surrendered. The past left. Nil stayed the same except
for his spirit that is valiant enough to fight for their good old days.
On the other hand,
not every soldier succeeds in the battle of existence.
He closed his eyes,
tight enough to bring him back into the second of reality. He opened it and not
a tear was present. He smiled. The truth unfurled.
"There were
nights when falling asleep takes a lot of pain and sadness." He told
himself. "But that was then and this is now. Time travelling is completely
impossible. I chose to live in the present in order to embrace the future. They
only fit in the past, those days do not belong in my life now. They perished --
faded like an old photograph. They faced their demise last night."
He can hear them
whispering their sweet-scented words of reconciliation. He can vide them doing
everything to win him back. He can tell by now that they already realized his
worth. Too bad, he already forgot their importance. Those who love him right
now altered their erstwhile place.
For them who broke his fate, his silence is unfair.
But, they must know, the silence in him when he was quietly fighting then was
the same silence that killed the man they know in days of yore.
